A letter from the founders of Acctual

When we started Acctual, we set out to make invoicing and bill pay that works for businesses and freelancers around the world.

We built a flexible product that helped businesses create professional invoices, offer customers more ways to pay and route funds directly to the bank account or wallet where they needed them. So that you can get paid on time and not let where you operate be the reason you can’t do business globally.

But the deeper we went, the clearer something became. Invoicing alone is not enough.

Behind every invoice is an account, a payment, an approval and a ledger entry. When each of those pieces lives in a different system, businesses are left copying information between tools, matching payments by hand and reconstructing their financial picture after the fact.

We realized the bigger opportunity was not to build a better invoicing product in isolation. It was to connect invoicing and bill pay to the rest of a company’s finances.

Today, we are excited to share that Acctual is joining Altitude, where we will be working to to build that future together.

Why Altitude

We have known and admired the Altitude team for a long time.

Altitude brings accounts, payments, corporate cards and financial operations into one global operating account.

Just as importantly, we share a point of view on how financial products should be built. Powerful infrastructure should not come at the expense of a thoughtful experience. Even the most complex financial work should feel clear, intuitive and under your control.

Joining Altitude allows us to take what we built much further.

Invoices and bills will no longer sit outside the flow of money. They can connect directly to the accounts, approvals, payments and ledger entries behind them, giving businesses a live view of what they owe, what they are owed and what has settled.

Those connections also create the context needed to automate more of the work surrounding every transaction. Instead of chasing customers, matching payments and reconciling activity across different tools, businesses can bring those workflows together in one place.

That is the future of business finance we want to help build. Global by default, accessible no matter where you are in the world, connected by design and increasingly able to run in the background without giving up control.

What this means for Acctual customers

The standalone Acctual platform will remain available through September 30, 2026. Existing customers can continue using the product until then.

Before the platform closes, customers will receive information directly about continued access and any steps they need to take.

Our team is joining Altitude to build invoicing into its global operating account and further develop its bill pay workflows. Over time, the vision behind Acctual will become part of a much broader product where businesses can create invoices, receive payments, pay vendors, move money across borders, manage accounts and cards and run their financial operations from one place.

Thank you

To every customer who trusted Acctual with an important part of their business, thank you.

You showed us where financial workflows break, challenged us to make them better and helped shape every part of what we built. Your experience with Acctual will continue to inform the work ahead.

We are proud of what we built together and even more excited about how far we can now take it.

This is the next chapter for Acctual. We could not have found a better team to build it with.
